Our short visit in Spain came to an end and we arrived back in France late afternoon on the 29th May 2023.

We stayed in Marseilles, a port city in southern France, in a very cute little apartment, walking distance from La Vallon Des Auffes. We had a quick dinner and then walked down to this picturesque little harbour with its colourful boats and waterfront restaurants for a drink. After paying less for beer than for coffee in Barcelona (EUR2.20), we were very surprised when the bill for 2 beers and 2 apple juices came to EUR24!

The next day we started our sightseeing on foot at the Vieux Port (old port) surrounded by old buildings, watching the yachts, fishing boats and fishermen selling their latest catch on plastic tables.

We made a quick stop at the Cathedrale de la Major after which we strolled through Le Panier (the old quarter) with its narrow streets and colourful buildings.

Marseille is the second-largest city in France after Paris, the capital of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and the oldest city in the country. To celebrate our last night in this beautiful city, we walked to the Fort Saint-Jean and sat on the rocks admiring the ocean views.
