After breakfast in Belgrade, we drove to Budapest.

Budapest is actually made up of two separate cities – Buda and Pest – divided by the Danube River. Buda is characterised by its hills and historic sites, while Pest is the bustling, flat side with the city center.

Our Airbnb apartment is right in the city center on the Pest side, so we were able to walk to all the sights. We headed straight to the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, but unfortunately due to roadworks we couldn’t walk across the Chain Bridge. Instead we caught a public transport bus for a free ride across the bridge. On the other side, the Buda side, we climb the stairs up to the Buda Castle and explore its courtyards and the Hungarian National Gallery (only from the outside though).

We walked back through Andrássy Avenue, a pedestrian only street with beautiful buildings, luxury shops, and cafes.

Next stop: Bratislava
