Our Airbnb hosts told us about the little town, Vinci – about 20 minutes from where we’re staying.
Vinci is a small town located in the region of Tuscany, Italy. It is most famously known as the birthplace of one of history’s greatest polymaths, Leonardo da Vinci – born on April 15, 1452, in this town.
In town, the Leonardo Museum, also known as the Museo Leonardiano, is dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci and his inventions. Then there is the Vinci Castle, known as Castello dei Conti Guidi and Church of Santa Croce.
Leonardo da Vinci was not only a brilliant artist, he was also a scientist, engineer and inventor. Some of his most famous works include the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and The Vitruvian Man. There is a wooden structure of The Vitruvian man in Vinci.
One of Leonardo’s most famous inventions is the concept of a flying machine, often referred to as a “flying machine” or “ornithopter.” Although he never constructed a working model, his sketches and designs showcased his visionary thinking about human flight. Another remarkable invention was the armored vehicle, a precursor to modern tanks, which featured a rotating platform with cannons.
Vinci is a charming little town and definitely worth a visit.
