Kotor

Jun 24, 2023

Even though Kotor is only 98km from Dubrovnik, it took 2 hours to drive the steep, winding mountain roads and we arrived at our Airbnb just after lunch.

The apartment was very close to the Old Town, so after a quick rest, we went for a walk.

Kotor is well known for its well-preserved medieval old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The fortified city walls are a notable feature, stretch for about 4.5km and date back to the 9th century.

The town of Kotor is located along the Bay of Kotor, often referred to as Boka Kotorska. This bay is one of the most stunning natural features of Montenegro, known for its fjord-like appearance and surrounded by beautiful mountains.

The town is also famous for its large population of cats that freely roam the town and we saw dozens of stray cats lazing around. There is even a Cat Museum!

Yet again, another filming location for The Game of Thrones. The town’s picturesque streets and medieval walls were featured in some episodes, representing the fictional city of King’s Landing.
