After the stop in Cologne, we continued on to the next country on our list – The Netherlands.
We arrived late Saturday afternoon at an old friend’s (from high school!) home just outside of Amsterdam where the family (with 2 boys the same age as our 2) gave us a very warm welcome.
We woke up Sunday morning to some rain, so after a lazy morning we all went to a local Pancake House for typical Dutch pancakes – more like a pizza with savoury (ham, bacon and cheese) toppings. Delicious!
From there, the 4 of us went for a drive through typical Dutch villages Monnickendam, Volendam and Edam – renowned for the iconic round shape with red wax coating cheese, known as Edam cheese.
