The weather was sunny so this morning we set off to Interlaken – about an hour drive from Bellach, where we are staying.
Set between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, Interlaken offers beautiful views of the surrounding Alps.
After a stroll through the center and an obligatory gelato, we drove down the valley to Lauterbrunnen.
Lauterbrunnen is renowned for its stunning valley, which is surrounded by towering cliffs and 72 waterfalls. The most famous of these waterfalls is the majestic Staubbach Falls, which drops over 300 meters from an overhanging cliff. Needless to say, we stopped in this lovely town for a drink at a little cafe overlooking this huge waterfall.
A bit further down the valley we discovered the Trümmelbach Falls (just by following the crowds of people next to the road!)
The Trümmelbach Falls are a series of ten glacier waterfalls hidden inside the mountain cliffs. The falls are unique as they carry the meltwater of the surrounding glaciers and are accessible via a tunnel elevator system. Absolutely amazing!
Down the next valley was Grindelwald – the gateway to Jungfrau, Eiger, and Mönch mountains. The village was featured in the popular novel “Heidi” by Johanna Spyri.
