After a rest (and very rainy) day yesterday, we drove to Lucerne this morning and our first stop was the Lion Monument.
The Lion Monument (Löwendenkmal) is a famous rock relief sculpture of a dying lion carved into a sandstone cliff, dedicated to the Swiss Guards who lost their lives during the French Revolution.
We then strolled through the medieval old town with its narrow cobblestone streets and colourful buildings. Then a visit to Lucerne is complete without walking across The Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) – Europe’s oldest wooden-covered bridge, dating back to the 14th century.
The last stop for the day was the Giessbach Falls – a beautiful waterfall situated in a forest right next to Lake Brienz. So we finished the day with an ice-cream at a beautiful old hotel overlooking this beautiful lake.
The perfect way to finish our time in the Alps. A month travelling through the Alps went so quickly!
